Frequently Asked Questions
How long will my insurance cover my child?
To be eligible for Group Benefits Program health coverage, dependent children must be under age 26. They can be married or unmarried. If a child becomes disabled, an employee may be able to continue coverage for the child, if the child lives with the employee or is dependent on care provided by the employee on a regular basis.
What is COBRA?
The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA) allows employees and their families who lose employer-sponsored health and/or dental coverage benefits to continue their coverage. Continuation of benefits under COBRA is only allowed for limited periods under certain circumstances or events, called COBRA qualifying events. A person qualified to receive COBRA continuation benefits is called a Qualified Beneficiary. The amount of time a Qualified Beneficiary may continue health and/or dental coverage under COBRA depends on why the coverage was lost.
