Department Overview

The Offender Transportation Department is responsible for offender transport to include:

  • Unit-to-Unit
  • Medical
  • County Jail
  • State and Federal Court Appearances
  • Off-site Medical Offender Tracking
  • Out-of-State Extraditions
  • Emergency response or evacuations

The Offender Transportation Department is headquartered in Huntsville with seven hub offices located in Abilene, Amarillo, Beeville, Gatesville, Huntsville, Rosharon, and Tennessee Colony. This department operates a fleet of vehicles consisting of 117 buses, 60 vans, 6 vans for the physically disabled, 3 vans used to transport regional release offenders, 2 sedans, and 1 maintenance pickup truck.

More than 4.9 million miles were traveled and 581,048 offenders were transported in FY16. The Offender Transportation Department works closely with Classification and Records to ensure the timely, efficient, and safe transport of offenders.
