Carlson named director of Parole Region I

Chris Carlson

In June, Chris Carlson was selected as the Region I director for the Parole Division, where he oversees management of parole offices in a large section of East Texas, including the Huntsville and College Station areas. The Parole Division supervises offenders released from prison who are serving out their sentences in Texas communities.

Carlson has more than 26 years of criminal justice experience, including 17 years in a supervisory capacity and 14 years with the Parole Division. He began his career in 1992 as a parole officer at the Dallas V District Parole Office, and promoted to unit supervisor at the Waxahachie District Parole Office in 1998. Carlson left the Parole Division in 2006 when he transferred to the Private Facility/Contract Monitoring Oversight Division as a contract monitor, eventually promoting to region supervisor. He returned to the Parole Division in 2018 as assistant regional director at the Ft. Worth I District Parole Office.

Carlson has a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology/criminology from East Texas State University.

Parole Division Director Pamela Thielke commended Carlson’s selection, saying, “Mr. Carlson’s extensive supervisory experience includes a strong focus on oversight, training and staff relations. Please join me in congratulating Chris as he assumes this new leadership role.”
