2010 Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award
CrossNet-Criminal Justice Ministry,
For 15 years, the ministry of CrossNet has encompassed all aspects of criminal justice ministry to include the offenders, TDCJ staff, and the community. Their goal is to restore the offender's significance and self esteem; inspire permanent change from their previous lifestyle; and transform the attitude toward work, family and society. This ministry organization provides weekly discipleship study programs; life skills training programs; marriage seminars; and faith-based dorm programs at the Hightower Unit and the Plane State Jail in Dayton, Texas, and at the Lychner and Kegans State Jails in Houston, Texas. Through their Welcome Back program, they have provided aftercare resources for more than 41,000 offenders that were preparing for release. They partner with Prison Fellowship Ministries to provide Christmas gifts and meals for 200-400 children of incarcerated parents through the Angel Tree Program. They also minister to and encourage staff at the Lychner and Plane State Jails. For their dedication, CrossNet Criminal Justice Ministry has been selected to receive the volunteer award for Religious Service.
